I like to pick up coins when I see them, but this is getting ridiculous. Recently I\u2019ve netted 50 cents from money falling from heaven. Today\u2019s find was weird: a quarter in the middle of my brand new copy of Principia Mathematica<\/i>, Volume 1, which I\u2019m reading as part of my quixotic quest to reinvent number theory for a young adult novel. \ud83d\ude1b<\/p>\n
Shipped from Amazon. Apparently a reprint (there are handwritten notes in my text which are apparently copied from whatever they used for camera-ready copy for this one). But with a quarter in it<\/i>, stuck in the beginning of Chapter 3. It survived shipping, survived me carrying it around for a while \u2026 how?<\/p>\n
The other one was weirder. A couple of months ago, I stepped out of the shower and pulled on a towel. I turned around, and a shinggg<\/i> sounded, followed by the unmistakable sound of a coin falling to the floor. I looked around and found a quarter, which apparently fell from roughly where the bathrobes hang.<\/p>\n
Only \u2026 we rarely use the bathrobes. There are no holes in the bathrobe pockets. The quarter fell, like from the air<\/i>.<\/p>\n
Now this is totally possible. We forgot and put a quarter in a bathrobe pocket, and I jostled it. The quarter got stuck in a knot. The quarter wasn\u2019t on the bathrobe at all, and was stuck to the towel. The quarter was on the bathroom windowsill and I knocked it off. Et cetera. Et cetera. There are a thousand \u201crational\u201d possibilities.<\/p>\n
But it was still damn unusual.<\/p>\n
Now I have 50 cents. That and four bucks will get me a Starbucks. Until the rest of my grande mocha Frappucinio falls from heaven, I gotta ask: who\u2019s trying to tell me something, and what?<\/p>\n
