The good news is I wrote ~2800 words yesterday, more than I needed. The bad news is I wrote 900 of those words by hand in my notebook (so as to not disturb the other diners in the dark and quiet restaurant with the typing coming from my glowing laptop), and took most of this afternoon\u2019s writing session to get them all typed in. Argh! Still, I\u2019m happy with the results …<\/p>\n
\n\u201cSo,\u201d Avenix said. \u201cWe have begun to seek out, in all our holdings, other threats\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n
I raised my hand. \u201cHang on,\u201d I said. Filling in the blanks, this ghost had to have been a fae hunter; that\u2019s why they called me. But Avenix wasn\u2019t saying that outright: he seemed to be feeding me my own lines. \u201cYou feared a threat to your realm \u2026 started a search for dangerous use of magic \u2026 then called me to deal with the problem. Did I get that right?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWell \u2026 yes,\u201d Avenix said.<\/p>\n
\u201cDon\u2019t lie to me!\u201d I said, slapping my hand on the table. \u201cWhat\u2019s your real goal?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI am not lying to you,\u201d Avenix said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhy would he lie to you?\u201d Nyissa asked. \u201cIt\u2019s a reasonable course of action\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAre you all insane?\u201d I said. \u201cDo you have no memories? Ten years ago\u2014ten months ago\u2014you\u2019d have all been tearing each other apart, lashing out at everyone in sight, blaming anyone you could get your hands on to deal with your problems. You\u2019d have been at war with Sidhain just because this happened on her doorstep\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cNot likely,\u201d Avenix said, shuddering.<\/p>\n
\u201cSave it! She has a real bad attitude,\u201d I said, \u201cbut she\u2019s pretty damn inoffensive for an alleged apocalyptic horror, and I\u2019ve seen you in action against witchhunters! You can\u2019t expect me to believe you\u2019re all playing nice just because I came along!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
Sounds like Dakota and Avenix are going to have it out. Onward!<\/p>\n
