Agent Grant, commander of the MIRTH unit\u2014if I remember my DEI alphabet soup, that stands for something twee like Magical Incident Response Transportable Headquarters\u2014turned towards us, turned off his earpiece, and turned completely serious.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe\u2019s right, this is an operation,\u201d he said evenly but firmly, his full beard making him look grimmer and sterner than he already sounded. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter if you two are the only ones on deck. If you\u2019re not ready, I am not sending you in.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI fought in the Great War, you ridiculous pup!\u201d But Nyissa\u2019s voice quavered. I knew she was not particularly brave; but what was up? More than just anger at being awakened before the crack of sunset, I think. \u201cBut I\u2019ll not be going in at all, I think\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n
My hand fell on her knee. \u201cAnd no-one thinks less of you for it,\u201d I said.<\/p>\n
Nyissa sagged a bit. Grant raised his eyebrows at me.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo we have one operative,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have one operative,\u201d Philip said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd it\u2019s Red Sonja here,\u201d Grant said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHey!\u201d I said. \u201cJust because I have a metal bikini and a sword\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cOutclassed by my own supposed sub,\u201d Nyissa said. \u201cSome bodyguard I am.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cDifferent kind of discipline,\u201d Grant said, looking between us. \u201cFrost, you ready?\u201d<\/p>\n
