{"id":6676,"date":"2023-06-09T22:30:36","date_gmt":"2023-06-10T05:30:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dresan.com\/blog\/?p=6676"},"modified":"2023-06-09T22:30:38","modified_gmt":"2023-06-10T05:30:38","slug":"seventy-seven-minus-eighty-three-mondrian-cat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dresan.com\/blog\/2023\/06\/09\/seventy-seven-minus-eighty-three-mondrian-cat\/","title":{"rendered":"[seventy-seven] minus eighty-three: mondrian cat"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dresan.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/mondrian-cat-small-600x467.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6677\" width=\"718\" height=\"559\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dresan.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/mondrian-cat-small-600x467.png 600w, https:\/\/dresan.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/mondrian-cat-small-300x233.png 300w, https:\/\/dresan.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/mondrian-cat-small-768x597.png 768w, https:\/\/dresan.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/mondrian-cat-small-640x498.png 640w, https:\/\/dresan.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/mondrian-cat-small.png 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 718px) 100vw, 718px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Just Loki, on the back patio, looking at a leaf &#8230; with a little added magic (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dresan.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/mondrian-cat.png\">full size<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Producing this relatively simple image actually involved a fair number of Photoshop tools, several of which are new &#8220;generative AI&#8221; tools, but many others of which are just plain old machine vision magic:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Layers (stacked images) used extensively to save original or alternate versions of things.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Perspective Warp (a pretty impressive tool in its own right) to distort the image into a rectilinear shape.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Content Aware Fill (a new Photoshop generative AI tool) to extend the warped stone tile to fill the frame.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Clone Stamp tool to complete the grout lines which were only partially filled in by Content Aware Fill.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Quick Selection tool to isolate Loki and the leaf into their own layers for later.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Selection &gt; Modify &gt; Expand and Selection &gt; Modify &gt; Feather to get the fine hairs on Loki&#8217;s boundary.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Generative Fill (another generative AI tool) to eliminate many of the leaves.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>More Clone Stamp to eliminate more leaves and minor imperfections.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Layer duplication to create an original and to-be-colored tile backdrop.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Swatches, the Rectangular Marquee tool, the Polygonal Lasso, and the Fill tool to create the colored tile.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Color Burn layer blend mode (with 57% opacity) to create the primary Mondrian effect.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Another layer duplication to create a new version of the colored tile to enhance the grout.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Filter Gallery &gt; Colored Pencil which fortuitously greyed out the colored tile and colorized the grout.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Magic Wand tool set to Contiguous and 0% Tolerance to cut out the greyed tiles from the grout layer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Darker Color layer blend mode to enhance the grout.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Drop Shadow on the leaf to make it stand out.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Duplicating Loki into a layer with Darken to make him stand out against the colored grout.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Adding Inner Glow modified to Darken as well (with a Choke of 14 and Size of 87) to eliminate some of the white halo around Loki.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Adding a second Loki layer, Normal blend with 50% opacity, to get his sheen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>I like how it came out, especially given how it started:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dresan.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/original-cat-small-600x800.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6678\" width=\"713\" height=\"951\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dresan.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/original-cat-small-600x800.png 600w, https:\/\/dresan.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/original-cat-small-300x400.png 300w, https:\/\/dresan.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/original-cat-small-768x1024.png 768w, https:\/\/dresan.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/original-cat-small-640x853.png 640w, https:\/\/dresan.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/original-cat-small.png 900w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 713px) 100vw, 713px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I looked at that and thought, &#8220;You know, that&#8217;s almost a Mondrian backdrop&#8221; and I was right!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>-the Centaur<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Just Loki, on the back patio, looking at a leaf &#8230; with a little added magic (full size).
